The Pelasgians "were a prehistoric people believed to have lived in what is now Greece before the rise of what is generally thought of as Western Civilization.
"In the beginning, according to the Pelasgian myth-makers, there was Chaos, which is where most creation stories originate. To the Pelasgians, however, Chaos, was not just a great cloud of nothingness. Rather, it was a dynamic region that contained tremendous potential - a place of great energy but no differentiations to define things as separate or individual. There were, in short, no dualities. The grand scheme of creation, in this view, was to impose order on a limitless kernel of possibility. This idea was passed down through the centuries and has become part and parcel of our very definition of the universe: Cosmos is the Greek work for 'order'.

"According to the Pelasgians, naked Eurynome, goddess of all things, was the first to arise from Chaos. From this and other clues, as a matter of fact, some historians have suggested that the Pelasgians probably lived in a matriarchal society. In any event, Eurynome looked upon the vast sameness of Chaos and almost inadvertently created the first cosmic duality. Finding nothing to stand on, who separated the sea from the sky so that she could dance on the waves. This primal division of matter resulted in distinctions between air and water, up and down, wet and dry, and it came to be looked upon by the Pelasgians as the first step in brining forth order from Chaos. Because there were now at least two separated principles, they believed, there would have to be interaction between the opposing forces and this brought about the entire creation process."
"As Eurynome danced, she stirred up behind her the north wind, or Boreas, which she then transformed into a great serpent called Ophion. Eurynome's dance aroused the passion of Ophion, who wound himself around the body of the goddess and copulated with her. Becoming pregnant, Eurynome took the form of a dove and eventually laid the universal egg, which the serpent then wrapped in the coils of his body and held until it hatched. This act released all other things in the universe, and by this process, the sun, the moon, and all the heavenly bodies, including the earth came in to being."

"The Pelasgian myth goes on to relate that Eurynome and Ophion settled down on Mount Olympus, where they lived until a ferocious domestic argument broke out. It seems that the serpent, rising above his station, began to claim that he, not she, actually created the universe. Furious, Eurynome kicked out the serpent's teeth and banished him to the underworld. for the human race this battle would have enormous consequences, From Ophion's teeth, Eurynome created the first man, Pelasgus, and originated the prehistoric race of Pelasgians."
